A client had accumulated a substantial IP portfolio, some of which was commercialised. They engaged Alliance to review their patents and research opportunities to monetise them. We investigated relevant industries, their value chains and the potential use cases for their technologies. Our report summarised the business models and partners which could deliver revenue growth.

Manufacturing cost reduction

Our client had developed a product which performed well, but they desired a greater gross margin. Alliance were asked to review the design and manufacturing methods to investigate cost reduction. We divided the product architecture into mechanical and electronic/electrical systems to assess the value of modules and major components. A client had invented a product concept for a large, growing market. Alliance were asked to help develop this into a prototype which demonstrated the potential of their future product. We helped them hire and onboard engineering staff. Together, we researched the IP landscape and investigated design options before choosing an architecture for their prototype. We also helped them fine-tune their pitch deck and prepare for raising investment.

Spin-out partnerships

An academic spin-out was seeking a corporate partner to commercialize their technology. They asked Alliance to review the partner’s draft proposal and suggest a way forward. We researched the relevant industries to understand their value chain, the client’s commercial position and their technical advantages. We reviewed the relevant documents and advised on how to maximise the value created and captured through negotiation with the prospective partner.

Our client had begun earning revenue through projects and sought mentoring on strategies for further growth. We provided support to help them reflect on their strategic options and their pros and cons. We discussed the resources and activities required and how hiring and outsourcing could help fulfil these needs. We advised on approaches for finding candidates and negotiating job offers.
